Frequently Asked Questions

Answers for patients looking for a doctor and clinics looking to get listed.

PFor Patients

How do I find a doctor accepting new patients?
Use the Search page and filter by "Accepting New Patients" status. You can also browse by region or city. Clinics with a green "Accepting New Patients" badge are currently open for registration.
Is this service free for patients?
Yes. Find a Doctor BC is completely free for patients. We do not charge any fees or require account registration to search the directory.
How current is the information on this site?
Clinic status is updated by clinic administrators and our verification team. Verified listings have been confirmed within the past 90 days. However, availability can change rapidly — always call the clinic before visiting to confirm they are still accepting new patients.
What is the difference between "Accepting Limited" and "Accepting New Patients"?
"Accepting New Patients" means the clinic is open for general new patient registration. "Accepting Limited" means the clinic may only accept patients in specific circumstances — such as certain age groups, people without a doctor, or referrals only. Always call to confirm eligibility.
What does "Provincial Registry" mean?
"Provincial Registry" means this clinic participates in BC's Attachment Initiative or a similar provincial program. Patients are matched through the Health Connect Registry rather than by contacting the clinic directly. Visit the Health Connect Registry website to register.
Can I register with more than one clinic at a time?
You can contact as many clinics as you like — we encourage you to reach out to multiple clinics simultaneously. However, once you are registered as a patient at one clinic, it is courteous to notify others.
What if I find information that is wrong?
Please use the Contact page to report inaccurate information. Include the clinic name and what is incorrect. We review all reports within 2 business days.
Does this site cover walk-in clinics?
Yes. You can filter search results by clinic type, including Walk-In and Urgent Care. Walk-in clinics do not require registration — they accept patients on a first-come, first-served basis.
Is virtual care available at some clinics?
Yes. Use the "Virtual Care Available" filter on the Search page to find clinics that offer phone or video appointments. Some clinics offer virtual care to existing patients only.
What if no clinics in my area are accepting patients?
If you cannot find a family doctor, you can register with the Health Connect Registry (811) or visit a local walk-in clinic for immediate care. You may also search in nearby cities by using the Regions page.

CFor Clinics

How do I add my clinic to the directory?
Use the Contact page and select "Add / Claim a Clinic Listing" from the subject menu. Our team will verify your clinic and create or transfer the listing to you within 3–5 business days.
Is it free to list my clinic?
Yes. Listing your clinic on Find a Doctor BC is completely free. We do not offer paid placements — all clinics are ranked equally based on availability status and last-updated date.
How do I update my clinic's acceptance status?
After claiming your listing, you can log in to your clinic dashboard and update your status at any time. Changes are reflected on the site within a few minutes.
What information can I include in my listing?
You can add your clinic name, address, phone, website, hours of operation, providers, accepted insurance, services offered, enrollment method, languages spoken, and accessibility information.
How does the verified badge work?
Listings that have been confirmed by the clinic administrator within the past 90 days display a "Verified" badge. This helps patients trust that the information is current. Our team may also contact clinics directly to verify listings.
Can I respond to patient reviews?
Yes. Clinic administrators can respond to approved reviews from their dashboard. Responses are displayed publicly beneath the original review.
